A Look Back at the Weird and Wonderful World of the General Store in 2020

September 2020

In September is when Benjamin Vineyards has their biggest harvest of muscadine and scuppernong grapes and guess who benefits? Everyone!
It had become an inside joke that even if our food was five-star, our gas pumps definitely weren’t. That all changed in September, when we finally upgraded our 15+ year old gas pumps with newer, more reliable, less dented gas pumps. You could finally read the LCD screen, what a novelty!
By this point in 2020, this beer was saying what we were all feeling.
Amber really went full swing with honing her baking skills in 2020, taking over most of our baking duties, filling our bakery case weekly with cakes, pies and cupcakes.
As temps started to dip into autumn territory, we got hoodies in just in time, and these customers were happy to pose in their brand new SGS sweatshirts ready for fall!
School looked a lot different in 2020, with remote learning and homeschoolling becoming the norm. And when your dad runs the General Store, homeschooling involves in-depth learning of the culinary arts. We even featured Ella and Harper’s quiche recipe as a brunch special for the month of September!
When you’re waiting outside for your dinner order, it’s best to look cool while you’re doing it.
Even when times are tough, we always know how to keep a positive attitude. When someone says “Hey, that food looks really good, let me take a picture for social media”, there’s always someone nearby willing to jump in with a pair of rabbit ears.
At the end of September, Maddie was still trying to get as much wine ordering and stocking done as possible before the baby arrives.
Why did the chicken cross the road? Because it’s Saxapahaw, and we have one road and a lot of chickens…so it happens.
