The General Store 2021 Rewind: Up, Down, Left, Right and Back Around Again

The General Store 2021 Rewind: Up, Down, Left, Right and Back Around Again

July 2021

July started with a bit of a coin shortage, but our neighbors were happy to step up, to bring us bags of change so we never ran out.
Around late June and early July, we had to start reducing kitchen hours to deal with staffing issues, something that hit the service industry across the country particularly hard. A combination of factors such as people retiring early, people changing careers, going back to school, burnout and a new wave of covid cases left many bars, restaurants, factories and transport companies struggling to keep up.
But the good news is that the Haw River Ballroom opened back up for live shows and events, which was super exciting to everyone in Saxapahaw.
Which meant the return of Haw River Ballroom weddings…
Which meant the return of Saxapahaw General Store catering!
How wide can you open your mouth? Do you think you could fit this whole applewood bacon blue cheese burger in your mouth in one bite?
What about with this beef brisket sandwich? The key with this one is to use the fluffy, locally baked focaccia bread to soak up all of the savory juices.
And with the return of summer, it means the return of summer lunch favorites like the mozzarella caprese stack.
And SO MUCH local produce. We have some amount of local produce year-round, but over the summer, our coolers are packed full of locally grown goodies from farmers right nearby, such as figs, zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, paw-paws and more.
The best part of summer storms? The rainbows right after.
