2022 in Review: The Year Full of Big Surprises

March

In March, much to the delight of many, we added BAGEL SANDWICHES to our breakfast menu!

Paperhand Puppet Intervention put out a beautiful coffee table book detailing the history of this storied and award-winning puppet theater with breathtaking photos.

And we got new neighbors! In March, River Mill Cycles moved in next to the General Store and quickly became an essential stop for the many cyclists who get to Saxapahaw along the scenic winding country roads.

Eamon, or “the little Saxapahaw Banksy” took advantage of the slightly warmer weather to decorate the village in his beautiful sidewalk chalk art.

And we had a very tasty St. Patrick’s day, with lots of corned beef and cabbage, paired of course with a big can of Guinness stout!

Russia’s sudden invasion of Ukraine in March meant that even in the tiny village of Saxapahaw, people were doing what they could to show their support for the Ukrainian people.

After two weeks away in the middle of the month, our social media and marketing manager Orin (that’s me!) came back as a whole different person. And I was so grateful to be living in such an amazing, accepting community. Saxapahaw is truly a magical place.

Made with farm fresh grass-fed beef, the steak salad is the perfect thing to bridge winter and spring.

We saw lots of new faces in Saxapahaw, including Tyler, who you can now catch slinging coffee down at Cup 22!

In honor of March Madness, we held a March Madness tournament to determine your favorite SGS dish. And the winner was…. THE BISCUIT BREAKFAST SANDWICH!

Murphy, the daughter of Maddie and Jake, spent a lot of time at the store making new friends and discovering new things.

And then at the end of March, Samantha left the General Store after being our buying manager for many years to pursue her dream of going into nursing, a field in which she has been absolutely thriving.
