A Look Back at the Weird and Wonderful World of the General Store in 2020 May 2020 Even as weddings were canceled or downsized to just a few people, it couldn’t stop General Store team members from following their hearts and getting married in May of 2020! Orin and Brittany (L) and Eden and Aaron (R) both got married early in May. Jeff and Maddie taking advantage of the big open space where the communal table used to be for some after closing fun with the hand truck. All the new restrictions on shopping and dining took some people a while to get used to, but putting signs right in your way helps. For months, we were only able to offer outdoor dining…which was a real bummer when spring rains hit. For an issue of Our State Magazine coming out in September 2020, we did this photoshoot of Jeff and Cameron without masks, because we assumed (or hoped) that by September, covid and the protocols to help prevent its spread, would be a thing of the past. Local farmer and owner of TS Designs (the company that makes our SGS T-shirts) bringing by a bounty of green onions. Even though we didn’t have any Saturdays in Saxapahaw concerts in the spring and summer, it didn’t keep intrepid day-trippers on motorcycles from coming to Saxapahaw to breathe in some of that fresh, country air. Tiffanie Jackson and Cameron setting up a spring garden of seedlings. 2020 gave us a lot of time to learn new things, and a lot of people took up self-sufficient crafts such as baking and gardening, and our local farmers and entrepreneurs were happy to help. One of our spring and summer favorites, the mozzarella caprese stack. Made best with locally grown heirloom tomatoes, mozzarella and pesto made from locally grown basil, it’s a burst of summer freshness that we look forward to every year!
